About the Brain Injury Center of Ventura County
The Brain Injury Center was founded out of one Ventura County family's devastating personal experience with traumatic brain injury, when their 17-year old daughter Su Stork was involved in a near fatal auto accident. Finding little to no assistance with the challenges they faced, they worked diligently to develop their own resource network for themselves and other families that followed and started the Brain Injury Support Groups. In 1998, BIC became a 501c3 Nonprofit Corporation and later changed their name to the Brain Injury Center. The agency provided support groups in Camarillo and then Oxnard and Ventura. In 2016, another milestone was achieved as the agency formally began providing Care Transitions services to brain injury survivors and their families as they navigated their way home from the hospital. In 2019, the most recent milestone was achieved as BIC began operating a 6-bed Adult Residential Facility for Brain Injury Survivors.
