What degree can you earn with Biotechnology?
Students will be able to earn an Associate of Science Degree in Biotechnology, in addition to certificates in biotechnology, biotechnology manufacturing operator, biomedical device manufacturing.
Is the program full-time or part-time? How long is the program?
You can do full-time or part-time. If you attend full-time, you could complete the degree in two years. Some certificates can be completed within one year.
Is it possible to work part-time or full-time in addition to the course work?
Yes, most of our classes are in the evening or online to accommodate working individuals. Many of our students work and take classes in this program.
Is there a waitlist for the program?
No, there is no waitlist.
What are the pre-requisites for this program?
There are no pre-requisites for courses in Biotechnology. However, there may be pre-requisites for the biology courses that are required for some of the certificates or degrees. We advise you to meet with a counselor.
How much money can I earn after I go through this program?
It depends on what certificate or degree you earn and what company you work for. The median salary is $60k-$80K.
Do I need a strong background in math and biology?
No, our program is open for all students. Our program trains students in hands-on skills needed in the industry.
What are the job opportunities after completing the Biotechnology program?
Based on a recent (2019) survey, 84% of our alumni currently work in the Biotech industry. Some departments that our graduates work in are Manufacturing, Process Development, Quality Control, or Quality Assurance.
What percentage of students who complete the program work in the Biotech industry?
Currently there are more job openings than applicants to fill jobs.
If I currently have a bachelor's degree, can I still enroll in the biotechnology program?
Yes, many students who have prior degrees in other majors go through our Biotech program to get a certificate as a way of obtaining employment in the Biotech industry. They are mostly employed in Manufacturing, Process Development, Quality Control or Quality Assurance departments.
What are the costs of the program?
Standard college fees, materials, or lab fees as listed in the college catalog and textbooks. There are no additional fees currently.
I am an undocumented student and do not have a Social Security number. Can I take these classes?
Yes! Once you have been accepted to Moorpark College and cleared for registration you can begin taking courses in the biotechnology pathway. If you are seeking advanced degrees, certifications, and/or licensures then there will be some limitations without a Social Security Number. Be sure to meet with an academic counselor to discuss your options.
I am an international student and do not have a Social Security number. Can I take these classes?
