Mission
The Moorpark College Veterans Resource Center (VRC) provides support services focused on the special needs and requirements of today's military veterans, active duty service members, and dependents. We assist students in transitioning to the college environment and in achieving their academic and personal development goals.
NEW VETERAN STUDENTS
Please open this link, fill out, and submit this form
(VETERANS ONLY) PLEASE READ BEFORE COMPLETING MOORPARK COLLEGE VETERAN STUDENT INTAKE FORM: As part of the intake form process we at Moorpark College will ask you for a copy of your DD214. You, the veteran, can voluntarily provide us with a copy of your DD214. However, legally speaking, we are not allowed to make DD214's a required document. Bottom line, what we need in order to complete setting you up for benefits is your full name and full social security number. Us and most schools will ask for DD214's because its a single document that provides us with both and gives us the additional benefit of having an official military document on file to confirm your veteran status. If you are not comfortable providing us with a copy of your DD214, open up a blank word document, type out your full name and full social, and attach that document to the box on the intake form for DD214. That will suffice.
The Rudisill Decision
In 2019 Veteran and Dependent students sued the VA. Their argument was that most college educations are 4-year programs so the VA should be providing students with 48 months of benefits instead of 36 months. This argument went all the way to SCOTUS who in April of 2024 ruled in favor of the Veteran and Dependent students. Starting in 2025 veteran students who have complete two enlistments honorably can file a claim with the VA to be evaluated under The Rudisill Decision. If approved the VA will grant said Veteran an additional 12 months of months of benefits.
As of right now this can be applied to both Post 9/11 Ch. 33 and DEA Ch. 35. However, this is a very new addition to VA benefits and is still subject to change. It is recommended that students follow up with the VA to ensure the information being given related to The Rudisill Decision is current and correct. Please call the VA’s Educational Benefits Service Line 1-888-442-4551.
To file the claim, go to VA.gov and fill out form 22-1995. It will take 30 days to process upon which the VA will inform you of their decision.
Veteran and Dependent students have until October 1st, 2030 to file a claim.
