“Come Back Home!”
FALL 2016 EVENTS
Film Studies - Screening of
"SALT OF THE EARTH"
Location: The Moorpark Forum (Applied Arts 147)
Banned upon its release in 1954 for its “subversive” depiction of Mexican American workers’ and women’s rights, Salt of the Earth has subsequently been celebrated as a classic of American cinema. With its neorealist aesthetic and focus on Latino lives, the film continues to inspire audiences through its powerful depiction of coalition and perseverance despite the overwhelming difficulties and inequities experienced by its primary characters. As we celebrate and honor National Hispanic Heritage Month at Moorpark College, this screening and discussion of Salt of the Earth gives us hope for the future while looking back through our past, cinematic heritage. Film Studies professor Alison Hoffman-Han will introduce the film and lead a discussion after the screening. Students, faculty and staff are welcome to attend.

Fallout from a satellite probe shot to Venus returns to Earth carrying a mysterious radiation that transforms the unburied dead into flesh-eating monsters. Seven people trapped in an isolated farmhouse, held hostage by the ravenous ghouls, begin to turn on each other as the dead encroach. “Night of the Living Dead” is a gripping, terror-filled play that brings all the fright of the cult classic to life.
