The Moorpark College Veterans Resource Center is committed to supporting the educational success of veterans, active-duty service members, and their eligible dependents. We provide personalized guidance, educational planning, and assistance with veteran’s educational benefits to help students successfully navigate their college experience and achieve their academic and career goals.

New Veteran and Dependent Students
Are you new to Moorpark College or planning to use your VA educational benefits?
Follow the steps below to get started with the Veterans Resource Center and prepare to use your educational benefits. 

STEP 1
Apply to Moorpark College.
Complete the Moorpark College application for admission. Once your application has been processed, you will receive an acceptance email with instructions for activating your MyVCCCD student portal.

STEP 2
Apply for Financial Aid (FAFSA)

We encourage all veteran and dependent students to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to explore additional financial assistance, including grants, scholarships, and other available aid.
You may qualify for financial aid even if you are receiving GI Bill® or other VA educational benefits. Completing the FAFSA may help cover educational expenses not paid by your VA benefits. Apply early to maximize your financial aid opportunities.

Important: The FAFSA and VA educational benefits are separate application processes. Completing the FAFSA does not replace your VA benefit application or the VRC's enrollment certification requirements.

STEP 3
Apply for VA Educational Benefits and Obtain Your Certificate of Eligibility (COE)

If you plan to use GI Bill® educational benefits, apply through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Once your application is approved, the VA will issue a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) or award letter confirming your educational benefit eligibility. You will need to provide a copy of your COE or applicable benefit authorization documentation to the Veterans Resource Center.

STEP 4
Complete the Veteran Student Intake Form

All new veteran and dependent students planning to use GI Bill® educational benefits or access VRC services must complete the Veteran Student Intake Form. This form helps our VRC team better understand your educational needs and connect you with appropriate services and resources. If you are using VA educational benefits, provide your COE or applicable benefit authorization documentation with the Veteran Student Intake Form.

STEP 5
Meet with a VRC Counselor and Register for Classes.
Schedule an appointment with a VRC Counselor to develop a comprehensive educational plan and receive guidance on your academic goals. After completing your educational plan, register for all the classes you intend to take for the semester.

STEP 6 · FINAL STEP
Submit the MC GI Authorization Form.
Once you have completed your intake form, developed a comprehensive educational plan with a VRC Counselor, and registered for all your classes, you are ready to submit the MC GI Authorization Form. This form confirms your enrollment and authorizes the Veterans Resource Center to move forward with certifying your enrollment to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Important: Complete this form last. Do not submit the MC GI Authorization Form until you have completed the preceding enrollment and educational planning requirements and are fully registered for the semester. If you are still waiting for your COE or benefit authorization documentation, contact the VRC for guidance.
