All the World's Primates

This database contains information on the all the species and subspecies of living Lorises, Galagos, Lemurs, Tarsiers, Monkeys, and Apes. The articles cover habitat, social behavior, diet, physical measurements, risks of extinction, and other facts critical to understanding primate lives. There are more than 3000 photographs as well as interactive maps for each species and subspecies, video, audio, links, search tools, multilingual glossaries, review articles and other resources pertinent to primate research. Searching can be done by image, common name or scientific name. Information has been contributed by more than 300 scientists who have done research on primates in their natural habitats.

Anthrosource

Developed by the American Anthropological Association (AAA), this database provides citations to journal articles in the field of anthropological research. The full text of articles in current issues of such journals as American Anthropologist, American Ethnologist, Anthropology and Education Quarterly, and Medical Anthropology Quarterly are also included. In additional to current publications, indexing includes archives of AAA journals. Searching is done by key words/terms and author searching is also available.

ARTstor

This rich digital library includes more than 500,000 images from the areas of architecture, painting, sculpture, photography, decorative arts, design, and other forms of visual culture. Images are drawn world-wide from such sources as museums, archaeological teams, photo archives, slide collections, and art reference publishers. Descriptive information is given for the individual images. The mission of ARTstor is to assemble image collections across many time periods and cultures and to create an organized resource that supports the noncommercial use of images for research, teaching, and scholarship.

CollegeSource

CollegeSource Online features over 18,083 college catalogs which are reproduced cover-to-cover. The colleges and universities include 2-year, 4-year, graduate and professional schools throughout the United States and selected countries. Searches can be conducted using various criteria such as tuition, enrollment, major or field of study, etc.

CountryWatch

Provides country specific geopolitical information on the 191 countries of the world. Includes a collection of political and thematic maps as well as statistical data.

Chicago Manual of Style

A guide to style, usage, and grammar in an accessible online format. It is a reference for writers, editors, proofreaders, indexers, copywriters, designers, and publishers, informing the editorial canon with sound, definitive advice.

Credo Reference

A collection of more than 530 general and specialized full-text reference books searchable by subject; search results include other ebook sources, free web materials, and articles available in selected Moorpark College Library databases. Specialized “Topic Pages” provide a gateway to research and include: a definition of the subject, related images, MC Library database resources, articles from subject encyclopedias, Google book suggestions, news summaries, a list of other relevant search topics, and links to additional MC Library electronic resources.

CQ Researcher

Especially useful in gathering in-depth information on topics of current social, economic, environmental, and political interest, this database is a collection of the issues of the CQ Researcher from 1991 to the present. The CQ Researcher is published each week and each publication, usually some 20+ pages in length, provides an comprehensive and objective overview of a single topic as well as a detailed analysis, a pro-con argument, and an annotated bibliography suggesting further research.

Daily Life Through History

Examines numerous facets of societal life across cultures and time periods. Areas of life explored include: domestic, economic, intellectual, material, political, recreational, religious, and geographic. Information gathered from reference works, books, and primary documents. Searching can be by topic or by topic combined with other concepts such as time period and area of the world. Information may be emailed or printed.

Daily Life Through History - eBook Collection

This database of electronic books examines aspects of daily life in various cultures throughout the world and throughout history. Primarily covering the broad fields of culture and customs, such as food and clothing, the collection also includes books analyzing the history of more than 48 countries.

Digital Theatre Plus

This database provides performances of award-winning theatrical productions from across the United Kingdom; including plays as well as musicals and operas. Each performance is accompanied by feature-length interviews with cast, production and creative teams, well-known actors, directors, producers, and designers to enhance the study of drama production from writer, performer, technician, to audience. Behind-the-scenes commentary offer insights on current professional practice and theatrical aspects of making theatre. Includes study guides to provide background on the playwrights and their works, as well as an understanding of plot, characters, language, and historical context of particular dramas.

EBSCO

Academic Search Complete: A scholarly, multi-disciplinary full-text database with more than 8,500 full-text periodicals, including more than 7,300 peer-reviewed journals. In addition to full text, this database offers indexing and abstracts for more than 12,500 journals and a total of more than 13,200 publications including monographs, reports, conference proceedings, etc. The database features PDF content going back as far as 1887, with the majority of full text titles in native (searchable) PDF format. Searchable cited references are provided for more than 1,400 journals.

America: History and Life with Full Text: The best database to use to cover the history and culture of the United States and Canada, from prehistory to the present. This database indexes over 1,700 journals from 1955 to the present with full text access to more than 200 journals and almost 100 books.

Business Source Elite: This database provides full text access to over 1,000 business publications, with access to some journals going back as far as 1985. Also included within this source are more than 10,000 company profiles from Datamonitor.

CINAHL Plus with Full Text: This database provides subject and keyword searching capabilities to specialized articles from more than 620 nursing & allied health journals. Evidence-based Care Sheets and health-related pamphlets are also included. Full text articles may be printed from the computer screen or emailed.

Communication and Mass Media Complete: This database indexes publications in the area of communications, mass media and other closely-related fields such as film, television, rhetoric, broadcasting, advertising, and new media.  Searching includes 570 journals with more than 450 offering full text articles.

EBSCO eBook Collection: This electronic library is a searchable collection of more than 14,000 ebooks. Sources include reference books, scholarly monographs, fiction, and non-fiction. Searches can be done within a particular title or performed across hundreds of titles.

ERIC: Developed and maintained by the U.S. Department of Education, ERIC is the preeminent database for any topic related to education. The EBSCO version of this database includes access to 1.3 million records and full-text access to over 300,000 full-text reports and articles contained within ERIC going back to 1966.

Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia: The online equivalent of the "funky" titled print encyclopedia of the same name.

General Science Full Text: This database indexes and abstracts articles from English-language periodicals published in the United States and Great Britain and provides the full text of selected periodical articles. Subjects include: astronomy, atmospheric science, biology, botany, chemistry, conservation, earth science, environment, food, genetics, health, mathematics, medicine, microbiology, nutrition, oceanography, physics, physiology, and zoology. Periodical coverage includes popular science magazines as well as professional journals with indexing beginning in 1984.

GreenFile: This database provides full-text access to a collection of almost 5,000 sources "covering all aspects of human impact to the environment. Its collection of scholarly, government and general-interest titles includes content on global warming, green building, pollution, sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, recycling, and more."

Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition: This database is designed for nursing and allied health students and provides access to almost "550 scholarly full text journals focusing on many medical disciplines. Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition also features the Lexi-PAL Drug Guide, which covers 1,300 generic drug patient education sheets with more than 4,700 brand names."

MagillOnLiterature Plus: This database provides author biographies, plot summaries and character overviews of famous works of literature. This resource is the online equivalent of the print Masterplots series.

MEDLINE: Developed and maintained by the National Library of Medicine, MEDLINE is the most comprehensive and authoritative database for information on medicine, nursing, health, "pre-clinical sciences, and much more." Contains links to selected full-text sources available with the EBSCO family of databases.

Newspaper Source Plus: This database provides access to more than 860 full-text newspapers, including the Ventura County Star. Also, this database includes almost 1 million television and radio news transcripts.

The Philosopher’s Index with Full-Text: This database provides full-text coverage of 220 philosophy journals, including the complete back file of The Journal of Philosophy.  Covers scholarly research in all major fields of philosophy including aesthetics, epistemology, ethics, logic, metaphysics, philosophical anthropology, political philosophy, and social philosophy; as well as the philosophies of education, history, language, religion, and science.  Provides indexing for more than 680 magazines and journals.

PsycARTICLES: A database of full text, peer-reviewed scholarly and scientific articles in psychology from the American Psychological Association (APA). It contains more than 153,000 articles from nearly 80 journals published by the APA, its imprint the Educational Publishing Foundation, and from allied organizations including the Canadian Psychological Association. Coverage spans 1894 to the present and nearly all APA journals go back to Volume 1, Issue 1.

Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection: According to EBSCO, "this is the world's largest full text psychology database offering full text coverage for nearly 400 journals." This resource provides access to journal articles on all "topics in emotional and behavioral characteristics, psychiatry & psychology, mental processes, anthropology, and observational & experimental methods."

Religion and Philosophy Collection: This database is the one to use when researching topics such as eschatology, "world religions, major denominations, biblical studies, religious history, epistemology, political philosophy, philosophy of language, moral philosophy and the history of philosophy." This resource contains access to over 300 full text journals.

Social Sciences Full Text: This database indexes more than 625 English-language journals published in the U.S. and elsewhere; more than 400 of these journals are peer-reviewed. Full text articles are available in 215 journals, some titles going back to 1995. Subject coverage includes: Anthropology, Criminal Justice, Economics, Environmental Studies, Geography, International Relations, Minority Studies, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, and Urban Studies.

This broad-based database is comprised of articles from hundreds of popular magazines and scholarly journals, dozens of current newspapers and newswires, thousands of television and radio transcripts, photographs and maps, and numerous reference books. The database can be searched by subject and all articles may be printed from the computer screen or e-mailed.

Elsevier ScienceDirect; College Edition

A broad database of journal articles and books published by or from affiliates of the international publisher Elsevier. This resource provides searchable sources, more than 2450 journals and 11,000 books, in the areas of health and life sciences, physical sciences, and social and behavioral sciences.

Ethnographic Video Collection  NEW

This database of anthropological videos provides access to more than 2000 hours of film from raw field footage to crafted ethnographies and documentaries, most from the 1960s to 2016. Includes classic ethnographic and primary source films to illustrate culture and practices across time periods and continents. Searchable by subject. Also available is a Teaching Edition created by the Royal Anthropological Institute aimed at assisting teachers in the classroom with materials and visual support. From Alexander Street Press.

Articles on Demand:  NEW This database provides access to practical articles in the area of early childhood education with an emphasis on how to create a welcoming and effective learning environment. Not limited to childcare in the United States, the breadth of articles is worldwide. Articles come from The Childcare Exchange, previously a print publication, now digital, and are written by childcare experts. Searchable by keyword.

Ed.flicks; Exchange Training Videos on Demand:  NEW A collection of high quality early childhood video training segments for use in small group presentations, PowerPoint demonstrations, and online learning platforms. The collection comprises more than 140 two-to-twelve minute video segments addressing such topics as: challenging behaviors and risk factors, intervention strategies, preventing obesity and promoting wellness in early childhood settings, nutrition, family partnership, infant and toddler care, child assessment, and teacher performance. Streaming and downloading options are available and videos are closed captioned.

Films on Demand (FOD):

FOD: Master Academic Collection plus World Cinema Collection: This collection of streaming videos provides access to more than 31,700 full-length productions and 300,000 video clips, all closed-captioned, covering topics in the humanities and social sciences, business and economics, science, health, and careers. Producers include A&E, BBC, PBS, Bill Moyers, HBO Documentary Films, Open University, Films for the Humanities and Sciences, National Geographic, and Scientific American. In addition there is a World Cinema Collection featuring 747 films from American, European, African, Asian, Australasian, Canadian, Caribbean, Latin American and Middle Eastern Cinemas. Includes some films from the Silent Era.

 

FOD: Feature Films: Films on Demand Feature Films offers full-length streaming feature films for instructional purposes from producers such as Films for the Humanities and Sciences, PBS, A&E, History, ABCNews, BBC, NBC News, Shopware, Biography, National Geographic and others.

Gale

Academic OneFile: A database of peer-reviewed articles from nearly 13,000 academic journals in the physical sciences, technology, medicine, social sciences, the arts, theology, literature and other subjects. Many of the articles are full-text and available in both PDF and HTML formats. Includes full-text coverage of the New York Times back to 1995. All articles have been published between 1980 and 2011.

Gale eBooks: A collection of encyclopedias and specialized reference volumes, in ebook format, for multidisciplinary research. The diverse subject areas from which the volumes have been chosen include: Arts, Literature, Biography, Sciences, and Social Sciences. These reference materials, originally published in print format, are now accessible electronically and can be searched by keyword, article title, or subject. Articles may be printed or e-mailed.

Gale Literature: This literary database of full-text journal articles, essays, and critical texts provides access to information on authors and their works as well as information on literary movements and genres.  The collection combines the information from Gale’s Literature Resource Center as well as Gale Virtual Reference Library to provide our largest full-text online database devoted to literary research.

Gale OneFile: Business: A database that contains full-text coverage of business disciplines, including accounting, economics, finance, marketing, management and strategy, and business theory and practice. Includes some of the leading business and trade publications.

Gale OneFile: Economics and Theory: A database that provides information on many aspects of economics including starting a business, marketing a product, developing policy, analyzing trends, constructing economic models, investing for the future, researching rates, etc.

Gale Onefile: Diversity Studies: A database that explores cultural differences and how those differences contribute to and influence global communities.

Gale OneFile: Gender Studies: A database that provides balanced coverage of this significant aspect of culture and society. Includes topics related to all aspects of gender and society, family and marital issues, gender inequality in the workplace, gender identity, etc.

Gale OneFile: Health and Medicine: For information on topics in the health care area, this database includes articles on: fitness, pregnancy, medicine, nutrition, diseases, public health, occupational health and safety, alcohol and drug abuse, HMOs, prescription drugs, etc. The database covers materials printed from 1980 to the present and may be searched by subject. Gale OneFile: Hospitality and Tourism: A database that provides access to periodicals covering the cultural and economic aspects of travel and tourism. The content covers both the historical and current state of affairs in the hospitality and tourism industries.

Gale Primary Sources: is an integrated research environment that allows users to search across all of their Gale primary source collections. 

Literature Criticism: Biographical information, excerpts from critical essays, and bibliographies on major dramatists from all eras. International in scope. Nineteenth Century US Newspapers: A full-text searchable, image database containing newspaper publications from rural and urban areas across the U.S. Includes topics relating to the the American Civil War, African-American culture and history, Western migration and Antebellum-era life.

Opposing Viewpoints in Context: This database draws on the acclaimed social issues series published by Greenhaven Press, as well as other reference content. This resource examines social issues and provides access to a large collection of viewpoint articles, topic overviews, statistics, primary documents, full-text magazine and newspaper articles, biographies, court-case overviews, links to websites, podcasts, and image galleries.

Slavery and Anti-Slavery: A Transnational Archive: Consists of pages sourced from books, pamphlets, newspapers, periodicals, legal documents, court records, monographs, manuscripts, and maps from many different countries. Topics include the history of slavery and it’s legal issues, the Caribbean, children and women under slavery, and modes of resistance.  

The Times Digital Archive, 1785-2013: contains more than 200 years of the Times, with every page of every issue from 1785 to 2013. Research spans multiple areas of interest, including business, humanities, political science, philosophy, and numerous other subjects with coverage of all major international historical events.

Grove Music Online  NEW

A collection of online resources from Oxford Music Online that includes the full text from the The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians (29 print volumes, 2001) as well as similar online versions of other Grove products including The New Grove Dictionary of Opera and The New Grove Dictionary of Jazz.

Issues and Controversies

Current issues database that provides objective analysis of opposing points of view on topics of current and historical interest. Articles are full text and searchable by keyword. More than 300 topics are included with coverage beginning in Sept. 1995. The database can be searched by subject and all articles may be printed from the computer screen or e-mailed.

Issues and Controversies in American History

Examining a wide range of topics in American History, this database combines authoritative, factual accounts with in-depth explanations of opposing viewpoints concerning contentious issues in American history. Searchable by subject, this database provides quick access to timelines, biographies, images, charts, historical texts, and interviews. Primary documents are included which give the points of view on all sides of debates as they were articulated at the time. Information may be printed or e-mailed.

JSTOR

This archive provides access to back issues of more than 500 scholarly journals spanning many disciplines. This is not a current issues database; typically there is a gap from 1 to 5 years between the most recently published journal issue and the back issues available in JSTOR. Articles can be searched by key word. Retrieved articles appear as high-resolution, scanned images of journal issues and pages as they were originally designed and printed.

Kanopy  NEW

A video streaming service that provides access to more than 30,000 movies, documentaries, award-winning world and classic cinema, and educational videos. Includes films from various vendors such as HBO, PBS, BBC, The Criterion Collection, The Great Courses, and Media Education Foundation as well as from many independent filmmakers. Films may be viewed on TVs, mobile phones, tablets and online.

Nexis Uni

This database provides access to information on topics in law and legal research, companies and business, and health and medicine; coverage also includes subjects in the news as well as U.S. Supreme Court decisions dating back to 1790. The collection indexes more than 15,000 sources including: newspapers, magazines, wire services, federal and state court opinions, and federal and state statutes. Many of the articles are full text; some are in abstract form.

O'Reilly Media

A repository of over 35,000 books, videos and interactive tutorials from more than 250 publishers focused on business and technology. Current content covers such subjects as software and web development, artificial intelligence, game development, computer networking, and programming languages, as well as topics in business management, engineering, and information technology.

The Oxford English Dictionary (OED)

This multi-volume dictionary, published by the Oxford University Press, is a descriptive dictionary of the English language, tracing the historical development of words with accompanying examples from literature of their usage over time.

Proquest US Newsstream, Alt-Press Watch, Ethnic NewsWatch, GenderWatch and the Los Angeles Times

A database which includes articles from major U.S. newspapers together with articles from alternative and independent press publications.  Particular coverage of the Los Angeles Times from 1881 – 1994, and 2008 – to the last three months.  Additionally, coverage includes scholarly journals, magazine articles and other sources from ethnic and gender studies sources. Searchable by keyword and subject.

Project Muse

This database provides access to an interdisciplinary collection of material, including scholarly journals and open source books, in the area of humanities and social sciences. Sponsored by Johns Hopkins University Press.

ProQuest Research Companion

This collection of tools and short videos demystfies the research process. Offers guidance in getting the research process started, selecting a topic for investigation, crafting searches to locate pertinent information, evaluating the reliability of sources, and avoiding plagiarism. Helps the researcher develop and sharpen critical thinking and research skills to find, evaluate, and use information effectively.

PsychiatryOnline   NEW

Full-text of DSM-5 and journals from American Psychiatric Association. 

DSM-5: This is used by health professionals, social workers, and forensic and legal specialists to diagnose and classify mental disorders, and is the product of more than 10 years of effort by hundreds of international experts in all aspects of mental health. This database provides ebooks in numerous areas of study and research including science, history and historical primary sources, literature and literary criticism, psychology and behavioral sciences, and careers. The collection can be searched, including by keyword or subject. Print versions of these books are available in the library.

Science AAAS

This database provides subject access to articles that have appeared, since 1996, in Science, a leading journal of scientific research, global news, and commentary. Also included is access to Science NOW, a daily news source for scientific briefs. A separate collection of scientific job notices in industry, academia and government is also searchable.

Springer eBook Collection

An online electronic book collection of more than 7700 titles whose content reaches across the fields of: biology, business, economics, chemistry, computer science, earth and environmental science, engineering, humanities, social sciences, law, math and statistics, medicine (including nursing), physics, astronomy, and how-to computer software and programming. The subject content is especially strong in scientific fields and the resources include textbooks and reference works as well as some open source journal articles.

Statista

This multidisciplinary database collects statistical information, both qualitative and quantitative, on more than 80,000 topics from more than 18,000 sources such as market research reports, scientific journals, and government databases. Includes more than 15,000 studies, industry reports, dossiers, and infographics, plus forecasts on over 500 industries and 40 economies over a period of five years. All information is prepared and checked by a research team of more than 80 analysts.

Wiley Online Library

Access to "Open Access Content" and EATM journals (Journal of Wildlife Management, Wildlife Monographs, Zoo Biology). Read about Wiley Online Library. This database is primarily focused on international scientific, technical, medical and scholarly sources which are published by John Wiley & Sons. Coverage also includes resources in the areas of life, health and physical sciences, social sciences, and the humanities. Indexes more than 1500 journals and 20,000 online books.
