We’re excited to announce a study abroad opportunity for Moorpark College students in Summer 2026: a trip to Mexico City, Mexico, through the Ethnic Studies discipline.
Ethnic Studies Tour of Mexico City June 1st –June 10th
Experience Mexico City's rich traditions, history, and daily life as you develop valuable skills by engaging with the culture outside of the classroom. This 10-day trip, scheduled for early June 2026, connects ethnic studies with the diverse realities of the city's communities. You can take this trip on its own or enroll in Ethnic Studies M40: Introduction to Ethnic Studies (3 units). This recommended course provides a foundational understanding of the topics we will encounter during our exploration of Mexico City. Additionally, it fulfills the Area F requirement for graduation. (Please note that the course enrollment fee is not included.)
Trip Objectives:
- Deepen understanding of Mexico's historical, cultural, and social dynamics, with a focus on Indigenous, African, and mestizo contributions to Mexican and American identity
- Engage with local communities, artists, educators, and activists to enhance awareness of contemporary social justice issues, such as migration, race, gender, ethnicity, and human rights
- Foster intercultural competence and challenge personal and cultural assumptions through direct experiences and reflective practice
