Can I take the Nuclear Medicine Certificate program without being a licensed radiologic technologist?
No, you must already be a Radiologic Technologist with a current ARRT license, current California CRT license, and at least an associate’s degree in Radiologic Technology before applying to the Nuclear Medicine certificate program.
When is the application period?
The application period is April 1 - 30 every other year. The next application period is April 2022.
Is there a wait list?
Yes, the waitlist ranges from 2-3 years long. Wait time is always subject to change.
When will I know if I am accepted to the program?
You will be contacted using the information from your application approximately 3-5 months prior to starting the program.
When does the program start?
The program begins every other Fall semester.
How many students do you accept?
Approximately 18 students are accepted for each start date.
Is the program full-time or part-time? How long is the program?
The Nuclear Medicine program is currently offered as a 2-year part-time program.
Is it possible to work part-time or full-time in addition to the course work?
Yes, it is possible and common for students to work part-time or full-time while in the Nuclear Medicine program.
How often is lecture? How often are clinical days?
During semesters with lecture courses, there is online lecture with tasks and work to complete weekly throughout the semester. There are also on-campus lecture days, approximately 5 Saturdays per semester. Clinical days are generally 1 to 2 days a week, 6 - 8 hours per day.
Is it dangerous to work in Nuclear Medicine?
To date, there is no evidence of an increased cancer risk in medical radiation workers exposed to current levels of radiation doses with workplace precautions and protocols in place.
Can I take the prerequisites as Pass/No Pass?
No, a letter grade of "C" or better is required for the pre-requisites.
Do I have to do a background check or drug screening if admitted to the program?
Yes. A background check and drug screening is required for clinical rotations. Marijuana is included as a non-allowed substance, due to our clinical partners being considered federal facilities. This also applies to students with a medical marijuana card. For specific questions related to the background check or drug screen, please contact the Health Sciences Department.
I am an undocumented student and I do not have a social security number. Can I apply?
Yes! Once you have been accepted to Moorpark College and cleared for registration you can begin taking courses towards your AA-T Kinesiology. If you are seeking advanced degrees, certifications, and/or licensures then there will be some limitations without a Social Security Number. Be sure to meet with an academic counselor to discuss your options.
I am an international student and do not have a Social Security number. Can I take these classes?
Yes. Same as above.
