What can an internship do for me?
- Allow you to explore careers…try out a discipline or two.
- An internship is a good opportunity for students to learn new skills and gain practical experience in the workplace.
- The focus of an internship is to perform work-related tasks and projects related to your major or occupational goal.
- Improve your college performance…classroom curriculum can be more meaningful when it relates to your internship
- Provide employment advantages…you will have business references and contacts; you might earn a higher salary since you will already have job experience; and sometimes an internship can lead to a job!
- Give you a head start into your field…pre-existing work experience can set you apart from other recent grads in the competitive job market.
- Different employers we work with offer paid and unpaid internships, both potentially providing you the opportunity to earn college credit. For information on the internship process, please review the following information.
What are my responsibilities as an intern?
- Secure an internship
- Attend an Internship Course Orientation
- Complete all required course paperwork
- Complete all required course assignments including capstone project
- You must meet with your Faculty Advisor (who is assigned to you) at least two times during your internship to discuss your progress
- You must schedule a mid-internship site visit with your Faculty Advisor and Worksite Supervisor
- Submit all required paperwork and assignments by semester deadlines to the Career Center
Who is involved in the student internship program?
- Student Intern - Learner
- Worksite Supervisor – Site supervisor and mentor
- Faculty Advisor – Campus advisor
- Instructor of Record & Work Experience Coordinator (Career Center) – Administrators
How do we calculate credits?
- You receive 1 credit for 60 hours of an unpaid internship or 1 credit for 75 hours of a paid internship
- You may earn up to 4 credits per semester
- You may earn up to 16 credits total
- Internships are graded and count towards your degree, certificate, or award
- Internships count as elective credits for CSU institutions
What are the eligibility requirements to participate?
- You must have declared a major or internship discipline at Moorpark College
- You must be in good academic standing by having a GPA of 2.0 or above
- You must enrolled and have taken or be taking at least one course in the major or career field at Moorpark College
