What does that entail?
I coordinate the EOPS/CARE and CalWORKs programs at Moorpark College. [The full names of these programs are EOPS (Extended Opportunities Programs and Services), CalWORKs (California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids) and CARE (Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education).]
The three programs are state-funded and provide culturally responsive support services to educationally and financially disadvantaged students so they can achieve academic success and receive quality career preparation. Some of the services include book grants, academic counseling, transfer assistance, tutoring, school supplies, and much more.
How long have you worked for the District?
I have worked with Moorpark College since April 2012. I started as a counselor for the EOPS/CARE and CalWORKs programs. While I still counsel students, I currently serve as the Interim Coordinator for these programs.
Were you a student at one of the District’s colleges and if so which one? What was your major and your degree?
I attended Ventura College as a first-generation EOPS student. I transferred to UC Santa Barbara, where I received a bachelor’s degree in history, and I also earned a master’s degree in counseling from California Lutheran University.
Are you from the area and if not where are you from?
I am from Ventura.

In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my husband and three children. We enjoy traveling, hiking, kayaking, and gardening.
What do you find rewarding about your job or career?
As a coordinator, helping students overcome obstacles and creating an inclusive environment where students can succeed is my biggest reward. One of my favorite quotes that I use when working with students is, “One of the greatest investments you can make is your education.”

I am very busy, but I do volunteer at food pantries when possible.
