Students from Moorpark College transfer to universities and colleges all over the country and beyond. Because there is little or no formal articulation with private or out of state, preparing to transfer will require additional effort to gather the necessary information.
The links below provide you with a guide to help you understand what kind of information you need along with news and events for in state private and out of state schools.

Private University Information

Here are many outstanding independent colleges and universities in California. Moorpark College students can prepare and become eligible to transfer to many of these fine institutions.
Many California private or independent universities will accept the completion of IGETC and/or CSU GE-Breadth as meeting their lower-division general education requirements; others will often give credit for courses taken at Moorpark College that are designed to be transferable to the University of California (UC TCA). Also, Moorpark College has developed articulation agreements with some of these schools.
Additionally, the CSU Chancellor's Office has reviewed and approved courses from some private colleges for its CSU General Education-Breadth pattern. Moorpark College students who previously completed any of the courses at the school (noted "CSU GE" under the Document column below) may apply the credits in the manner indicated in the linked charts. Please note that the "Date Approved" is the effective date. Courses taken prior to the date approved may not be accepted for CSU GE-B.
Keep in mind, each college or university has its own unique requirements for admission. It is recommended that you meet with a MC counselor regularly to develop an educational transfer plan that will be most sufficient and beneficial to your educational goal. Counseling appointments can be scheduled by calling (805) 378-1428 .

The Original Hands-on Film, Media, and Performing Arts School

Visit USF and get $500 off your first bill
All fall 2025 admitted students who visit campus or attend an on-campus admitted student event between Jan 1, 2025 and May 1, 2025, will receive $500 off their first bill when they enroll at USF. Students must check in at the Office of Admission during their visit and submit their enrollment deposit by May 1 (first-year) or June 1 (transfers). See more details and all admitted student events at our Welcome page.
Destination USF: April 12
We highly encourage all admitted students to attend our signature admitted student day, Destination USF, on April 12. Every year, more than 500 admitted students come to our campus to take mock classes, explore the dorms and classrooms, meet student clubs, learn about internship opportunities, and more. Students who can’t make it on April 12 should sign up for Meet USF (a half-day program) on February 21, March 21, or April 25 (for transfer students).
Merit scholarships increase
As a reminder, we’ve increased the maximum merit scholarship amount for domestic first-year students to $31,000 per year. International first-year students are eligible for up to $38,000 per year. Transfer students are eligible for up to $20,000 per year. All applicants are automatically considered for these scholarships, and all merit award amounts, if any, will be listed in the student’s decision letter.
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) instructions
95% of the incoming fall class last year received some form of financial aid. A FAFSA is required in order for us to prepare a financial aid offer for your students, so we highly encourage eligible domestic students to submit a FAFSA for the 2025–2026 year using USF’s school code 001325. For step-by-step directions, send your students this recording on how to complete the 2025–2026 FAFSA.
Community College Partnership Scholarships
USF is offering an additional $2,000 scholarship to admitted students from 22 Northern California community colleges including CCSF, De Anza, Foothill, and colleges in the San Mateo, Los Rios, Peralta, and Contra Costa districts. Learn more here.
Regular Decision Admission Notification
This year, we are releasing Regular Decision (RD) admission notifications on a rolling basis beginning February 6. Nursing and engineering admission notifications will be released in early March. We hope that this extended window will allow more admitted students to participate in our admitted student programs.
We're eager to welcome students to campus and show them what makes USF special. You can register for any of our events at our Welcome Page.
TRANSFER 1-ON-1 COUNSELING APPOINTMENTS
While we are attending upwards of 50+ in-person transfer fairs and visits this fall, we know virtual is still the most convenient option for many students. We offer virtual 1-on-1 transfer appointments Monday through Friday on Zoom. Students can sign up to meet with an admission counselor to plan their transfer or receive admission on the spot: https://apply.usfca.edu/portal/transfer-admission-appointments

- compare which majors best match completed coursework
- track all of the steps and deadlines to admission
- find useful content to help ease the transition to USF

Additionally, students attending four-year colleges who receive the federal Pell Grant or are first in their family to attend college may also receive a fee waiver. They can complete SwatPass to see if they are eligible.
Standardized test scores are optional for transfer students. We accept self-reported scores from students who wish to share their test results, but testing is not required.
Transfer students are admitted on the basis of merit, not their ability to pay. We practice need-blind admissions for domestic applicants and award loan-free financial aid decisions (grants and work study) that meet full determined financial need. These distinctive commitments apply to any student who is a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or is undocumented or has received Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) status. International students who require financial aid are not eligible for transfer. Additionally, we reduce hidden fees by eliminating some of the costs of college, like tutoring, printing, laundry, and tickets to campus events.
We waive the enrollment deposit for financially eligible students. In addition, we do not ask for a housing deposit.
Transfer students benefit from our transparent credit transfer policies. Our goal is for transfer students to graduate on schedule without having to retake course material. Typically, general education courses in the liberal arts (English and humanities, mathematics, social sciences, and natural sciences) are more likely to earn transfer credit than technical, vocational, and specific-topic courses. Admitted transfer students receive credit evaluations along with their admission decision in May.
We take a holistic and contextual approach when reviewing applications, and good-fit candidates tend to be:
- Intellectually curious and enthusiastic about learning
- Generous towards others and civically engaged
- Willing to work hard and seek help when needed
- Achieving mostly A’s in a rigorous liberal arts or general education curriculum

The general admission criteria for transfer students are at least 24 transferable credits with a minimum 2.5 GPA. Students with less than 24 transferable credits should be prepared to submit high school credentials to meet the Freshman Admission Criteria for UNLV.
Transferring from a California community college, your UNLV General Education coursework will be automatically waived if you have completed the certification requirements for either IGETC or Breadth, and the certification is reflected on your transcript.
The only exception is that all UNLV students do have to complete the Nevada Constitution Course, and students with Breadth certification also need to complete English 102: Composition II.

Transfer Scholars Network (TSN) to Elite Colleges
Moorpark College has officially joined the Transfer Scholars Network (TSN), an initiative dedicated to expanding community college student transfer to the nation’s highly selective colleges and universities.
Led by the Aspen Institute College Excellence Program with support from the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation, TSN facilitates direct connections between high-achieving community college students and senior admissions representatives at colleges and universities in the American Talent Initiative, such as Princeton University, Yale University, John Hopkins University and MIT. In the pilot of the TSN program, 20% of participating students who applied to the four-year partner universities received offers of admission, outpacing the average admission rate of 15%.
“Moorpark College is committed to maintaining our high transfer success rates and increasing transfer opportunities for our students,” said Julius Sokenu, President of Moorpark College. “Over the past five years, the college has increased its transfer rates by 22%, a trend we hope to continue by providing strategic support systems, like The Transfer Scholars Network, to our students.”
Histrically, community college students have faced significant challenges when aiming to transfer to any of these elite universities, many of which did not accept transfer students in the past.
“The community colleges have very distinct articulation agreements with California State Universities that ensure a student’s credits will be accepted for transfer, but with out of state and private universities, students are often apprehensive about whether their community college courses will count toward their degree” said Kellie Porto-Garcia, an Academic Counselor at Moorpark College who assists students in the University Transfer Center. “This program should alleviate some of these challenges and improve students’ chances to transfer to their dream university.”
One of the missions of The Aspen Institute for Community College Excellence, the organization behind The Transfer Scholars Network, is to close equity gaps in achievement among community college students.
“There is incredible talent within community colleges, including high-achieving students who should, based on their merits, have access and opportunity to take advantage of all that the leading colleges have to offer,” says Tania LaViolet, director at the Aspen Institute College Excellence Program. “We cannot have true equity in higher education if there is not a path for students across the nation to transfer from community colleges to highly selective institutions.”
Moorpark College Honors Students will be participating in the program this year, with the hope of further expansion of the program in the years to come.
